On Sat 2nd March 2024 LBC are hosting a tech forum for anyone involved in the AV ministry of their fellowship.
Getting the best out of your sound system / considering lighting / live streaming…
Who and why?
We are a group of church AV (sound) techs from different churches locally. We realise how important our relationships are and value the support we get from them. We want to create an opportunity for our fellow Church techs to get together to inspire and encourage each other; to learn from each other and to explore what church sound might look like in the years to come in your space. That’s the important bit – its about getting the most out of your own AV system in your building.
Where and When:
For our first event we have booked Lossiemouth Baptist Church for Saturday the 2nd of March from 10am – we expect to finish when everyone has had enough and gone home.
Cost: free
We are not charging for the event, but we will have the opportunity for people to make a small donation to cover the costs. Any money left over will be donated to the church.
So… what will it look like?
Building on the success of last year’s event, we are planning to broaden the scope of the day. We will have a number of different sound / light systems set up for you to play with, and people who can explain how they work / demonstrate their use – see below. We are hoping to have live music to practice mixing and pre-recorded music and speech to play with EQ; ‘How do I make this sound better? ‘
We are not planning any formal teaching but rather creating a space where you can fiddle / practice / drink coffee / chat with others doing the same jobs in different set ups. Once you have decided to come, please have a look at the quick survey to give us an idea of what you need to chat about.
The day will be mostly driven by the attendees – if there is a desire to have a session on a specific subject; we will host informal discussions.
Food: We are not providing food on the day (maybe bacon rolls), but there will be free flowing tea and coffee and possibly snacks. There is a supermarket 100m across the square.
What to bring
We suggest… notepad or tablet to make notes / swap phone nos, etc.
Packed Lunch – although there are shops nearby.
Pictures of your own set up?
Questions… (What’s the best mic? How do I stop feedback? Where do you buy your equipment from?)
What we have (…and this is evolving as we plan)
The main sanctuary we have a Wing 48 channel desk, with multiple feeds, live streaming and in-ear monitors. We hope to have live worship running for most of the day, giving the opportunity to mix and try out In-ears. We also have a StageCL lighting desk and 2 ATEM video mixing consoles.

Coffee and chat area: Drinks and snacks all day. Important area – come prepared to chat / ask questions / compare the way you run services. – Play room: we have a range of sound desks, microphones, amps, monitors, speakers – a chance to play, plug stuff together an make some noise – Digital Room: an X32 digital desk set up to play back tracks – a chance to practice mixing – Training room – conversations on subjects chosen by attendees
